Join Two Adjacent Village Maps at the Shared Boundary
Land that straddles a village boundary appears on two different village maps. Join them at the boundary they share to see the whole holding in one drawing.
Village boundaries were drawn for revenue administration, not to follow anyone's fields. Land regularly sits across one — half in one village, half in the next — and each village map shows only its own half.
Because the two maps are separate records, no office hands you a single drawing of the whole holding. Joining them at their common boundary produces one.

When you need this
Your holding runs across the line between two villages, so you deal with two sets of records and, often, two Village Administrative Officers.
The same problem appears when a buyer's advocate traces the boundary schedule and finds that the parcel to the north is recorded in a different village altogether.
What you need first
- The village map for each village, downloaded from the Tamil Nadu Survey & Settlement portal. A long village often spans several numbered sheets, each charged separately.
- The FMB sketch for your survey number in each village, if you want parcel-level detail rather than the village overview.
- The names of both villages and their taluks, so you request the right sheets.

Download the map for each village. If a village spans several sheets, download all of them — the portal charges per sheet.

Join each village's own sheets first
Assemble each village into one continuous map before joining the two villages, so you are working with two complete maps rather than many loose sheets.

Find the shared boundary
The village boundary is drawn on both maps. Identify the stretch the two villages share — that is the line the join has to be made along.

Match the scales, then snap
Village maps of different vintages are not always at the same scale. Resize one until the shared boundary matches in length, then snap the two together.

Download a full-resolution PNG or a print-ready PDF showing the holding across both villages.
Frequently asked questions
Why does one village map come as several sheets?+
A village too long to fit one sheet at the drawing scale is split across numbered sheets. The state portal charges per sheet, so a long village can mean four or five separate downloads.
Do the two village maps always line up exactly?+
Not always. They may have been surveyed decades apart and drawn at different scales, so expect to resize one before the shared boundary matches.
Can I join villages from two different taluks or districts?+
Yes, as long as the two villages actually share a boundary. The join follows the line on the drawings, not the administrative hierarchy above it.
