Gujarat land & survey glossary
Plain-language meanings for the words on your 7/12 utara (RoR) and village map / Block map, what each one is, and which of them you actually need before joining your sheets.
12 terms
- 7/12 utara7/12૭/૧૨ ઉતારા
- Gujarat's record of rights for agricultural land, combining Village Form VII (who holds the survey or block number, and any charge on it) and Form XII (what has been cultivated). It is the first document a buyer, a bank or a court asks for. It describes the land in words; the village map is what shows where it sits.
- 8A extract8A૮અ
- Lists every survey or block number one Khata holder holds in the village, with areas. Where the 7/12 describes a single parcel, the 8A describes the whole holding — which makes it the quickest way to work out how many map sheets you actually need.
- Block numberબ્લોક નંબર
- The identifier assigned to farmland under consolidation, grouping and renumbering the older survey numbers. The same ground can be described either way, and a current 7/12 carries both — which is why a deed and a map often appear to disagree when they do not.
- Survey numberસર્વે નંબર
- The older identifier for a parcel, from before consolidation renumbered farmland into blocks. Old documents name it, current records carry it alongside the block number, and a map request is keyed on whichever appears on your current 7/12.
- Hissaહિસ્સા
- A share or part of a survey number after it is split between holders. Once a survey number is divided into hissas the parent number stops matching the ground, and the hissa form is what reconciles the record with what is actually held.
- NA permissionNAબિનખેતી પરવાનગી
- Non-agricultural permission: converting farmland to building use. Until it is granted the land stays agricultural in the record whatever is built on it, and a developer's assembled parcel is usually presented as one joined map in the application.
- Gaam Nakashoગામ નકશો
- The village map: the drawing of a revenue village showing survey and block numbers with their boundaries. Issued sheet by sheet, so a holding spread over several blocks — the normal case after consolidation — was never drawn on one sheet to begin with.
- e-Dhara Kendraઇ-ધરા કેન્દ્ર
- The computerised land-records centre at the Taluka office. It is where a certified 7/12 or 8A is issued and where village map sheets are requested — AnyROR shows you the record online, but the e-Dhara Kendra is where the paper with legal weight comes from.
- Talati-cum-Mantriતલાટી કમ મંત્રી
- The village-level revenue official who maintains the records for one or more villages and makes the first entries in the 7/12. A correction to a village record starts here before it reaches the Mamlatdar.
- Mamlatdarમામલતદાર
- The revenue officer for a taluka, equivalent to a Tehsildar elsewhere. Mutation entries, tenure questions and record corrections are decided at this level.
- District Inspector of Land RecordsDILRજિલ્લા જમીન દફતર નિરીક્ષક
- The district office responsible for survey and measurement. A fresh measurement, a hissa sketch or a disputed boundary on the ground is the DILR's work, and it is also where village map sheets are held.
