How to get your village map and FMB sketches in Andhra Pradesh
Which record answers which question in Andhra Pradesh, what the Adangal and 1-B are each for, and where the map itself comes from.
Andhra Pradesh publishes its land records more openly than most states, which is genuinely useful and also slightly misleading: what is easy to download is the text, and the map is a separate errand. The Adangal and the 1-B tell you about the holding. The FMB sketch and the village map show where it is.
Adangal or 1-B?
- Adangal
- Organised by land. For each survey number: the holder, extent, classification and the crops grown. The working record of rights.
- 1-B Register
- Organised by holder. Every survey number one person holds in the village, with extents. Useful for seeing the scale of a holding rather than the detail of one parcel.
- Pattadar Passbook
- Issued to the holder, listing the survey numbers they hold. Used as proof of holding for loans and registration.
Getting the map
- Take the survey and sub-division numbers exactly as the Adangal records them: sub-divisions each have their own entry and their own sketch.
- Ask for the FMB sketch for each survey number, and the village cadastral sheets those numbers fall on.
- Where a village runs to several sheets, take every sheet your holding touches, including the one the boundary continues onto.
- The mandal revenue office is where map records and certified copies are obtained, and where a survey request is filed when the boundary itself is in question.
When the extent is disputed
Where the recorded extent and the ground disagree, the older settlement records are what the argument is resolved against: the Re-settlement Register, and the bilingual Diglot that pairs survey numbers with their extents and classifications. They are not documents most buyers ever see, but they are the ones that decide the question.
Several sketches into one map
A holding across several survey numbers is several FMB sketches, and their sub-divisions add more. Each shows one parcel; none shows the holding. The boundary that matters is nearly always the one where two sketches meet.

What is the difference between Adangal and 1-B?+
The Adangal is organised by land: each survey number with its holder, extent, classification and crops. The 1-B is organised by holder: every survey number one person holds in the village. One answers 'what is this land', the other 'what does this person hold'.
Where does the FMB sketch come from?+
The FMB sketch for a survey number is a survey record obtained through the mandal revenue office. The Adangal and 1-B, which are text records, are the parts most readily available online.
What is the RSR?+
The Re-settlement Register, listing each survey number with its extent and assessment as fixed at re-settlement. It is a founding record, consulted when a current extent is disputed.
